A Look Back on the Election

First, this graphic illustrates how the President won. Click on the graphic for an intriguing explanation. Now, Al Mohler writes: "Looking back at the election, The Washington Post offers a detailed analysis of the results with a keen demographic perspective. The data points to the fact that worldview is often tied to contexts and conditions. First, gender matters. Men favored Mitt Romney for President, with 52% of men voting for him, while 45% voted for President Obama. Women flipped the equation. 55% voted for Obama, while only 44% voted for Romney. Second, marriage matters. Married women favored Mitt Romney (53%) rather than Barack Obama (46%). Non-married women, in contrast, favored Obama (67%) over Romney (31%). Note the scale of that reversal. Third, theological convictions matter. White Roman Catholics favored Romney by a huge margin, 59% to 40% for Obama. But white evangelicals preferred Romney by an even greater degree, with 78% voting for Romney and 21% for O...

How Will You Vote?

The Issues: There is a God. He is holy, just, righteous, true, all-powerful, all-knowing, full of love, light, mercy, and compassion ( Psalm 22:3; 116:5; Genesis 17:1; 1 John 1:5; 4:16 ). Everyone must personally deal with Him ( Romans 14:11,12 ). You have a never-dying soul which is going to be either eternally saved in heaven or eternally lost in hell ( Matthew 25:46 ). You are a sinner. " For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God " ( Romans 3:23 ). God, being holy, cannot allow you into heaven until your sins are removed. You cannot work enough, give enough, or be good enough to remove even one sin from yourself ( Ephesians 2:8,9 ). But God, in His great love, has reached out to you--" For God so loved the world, that He gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not His Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through Him might be saved " ( John 3:16,17 )...

Time For A Change

Fueled by unfulfilled promises, unrealized hopes and mounting difficulties, "It's time for a change" is frequently heard from both politicians and the general public. There Have Been Changes in the Past Within the recent past, changes have occurred with surprising suddenness. Governments once thought to be stable have been toppled. Financial institutions have failed. Once-successful businesses have collapsed. More serious than all, the moral fabric of society has been shattered by turning away from God and the principles of His Word, the Bible. The "Do what feels good" philosophy--casting off restraint and the rejection of authority which is really lawlessness, the essence of sin--has broken up families, ruined lives and brought the disillusion, disease, death and destruction we see all around us. There Will Be More Changes When Jesus Christ was asked what the signs of His second coming would be, He replied, " Ye shall hear of wars and rumors of wars ... an...

The Great Election Day

It was voting day in Jerusalem. An enormous crowd had gathered, and what excitement there was! There had never been a day like it before, and there has not been a day like it since. Pilate, the governor, was presiding over the gathering, and took the vote of the people as to whether they were for Barabbas--a murderer, or for Christ Jesus the Lord--the Saviour of lost sinners. The governor asked, "Are you for Christ?" "No," they cried out all at once. "Away with this man, and release unto us Barabbas." Their choice was made. Their vote was recorded. They had rejected Christ, and instead chosen the murderer Barabbas. "What then shall I do with Jesus?" asked Pilate. "Away with Him: crucify Him," they all shouted. So Christ, the rejected Son of God, was taken out and nailed to a cross on Golgotha's hill. There He hung between heaven and earth as the Lamb of God to take away the sin of the world. The same question that was posed that fat...

The Price and Promises of the Presidency

Candidates, political parties, and supporters spend millions of dollars in campaigning for the office of the presidency of the United States. For the one who wins the job, there is also a tremendous physical and emotional price, resulting from the vigorous schedule and incredible pressures and responsibilities. Despite the financial and physical price the office exacts, there is no shortage of people willing to campaign for the job. Each new candidate brings a list of plans and promises, intending to bring about incredible progress. But when the president takes office, do these promises necessarily come to pass? Generally, a substantial percentage of them do not. Even the most honest candidate with the best intentions cannot keep all of his promises--the problems faced are simply too complex, and the resources available are simply not adequate to solve every problem. This is why one person after another is voted into power with great expectations of progress and peace only to find that...
